Its the day our Mahathma Gandhi was born. Yes, its October 2nd 2006, myself and my friends (Yogi, Santosh, Jagga and Basava) decided to visit VaniVilasSagar Dam.
Well, VaniVilasSagar dam is situated 20 kms to the west of Hiriyur and around 170 kms from Bangalore on NH4. Its a very beautiful scenic place and really good for one day picnic. We left around 8.00am in the morning and road to the place is really good. After you cross Hiriyur, you will see a small cement arch to the left on NH4. Take a left there and go about another 20 kms to reach VaniVilasSagar Dam. So, by 11.30am we reached VaniVilasSagar dam.
Many movies have been shot here. One of them is the hit movie 'Huccha' of Pradeep(One of the Kannada Film Hero). In fact after seeing this movie we decided to visit Vanivilassagara Dam once.
Though its a small dam, the backwater is simply beautiful to watch. The dam is built in the middle of mountains. These mountains are also installed with Wind Fans to generate power. You can get down to the water at few places. Also, you can have coracle drive if the local fishermen are free enough. Luckily, we found one and went for a long drive. Its a memorable one.
We had swimming at one point and enjoyed for another hour in water. We had our packed lunch, took some beautiful pictures, spent somemore time on the Dam and returned back to Bangalore by evening 7.30pm with beautiful memories.
